Madams of blood and madams of milk

Futura Publications has attempted to compile the vast and idiosyncratic work of George Lappas into this present volume. From the start our concern has been to avoid the rhythmic repetition of introducing singular works and rather to offer a compact documentary, in a filmic sense, of Lappas' stirring exploratory movements in his sculptural geography. The title of the volume points to the two frames of the sculptor's recent work, which the artist views in terms of Maqams, the Middle Eastern musical modes that form the basis of some of the Greek music as well.
