Ahmed El Kalai (oud) is the man who changed the way the oud is played in Tunisia, revealing its potential as a solo instrument. He created a style of playing that explored the affinities between Arab music and flamenco guitar playing, opening up the road for younger musicians such as Anouar Brahem, Kamel Ferjani and others. This exceptional recording is especially significant since Ahmed El Kalai has announced his intention to retire from active performing.
